About

Martha Nicholls (MA, HCPC)

I am a warm an empathetic music therapist. I play the alto saxophone in a jazz band, sing in a choir and play piano for my own enjoyment. I am interested in the authentic and equalising relationship that can be created through joint music-making, and offer listening to and responding to music as a tool to facilitate the therapeutic relationship and to explore personal growth. I believe that music can speak where words can't, and that our musical interactions and expressions can be viewed as a window to our subconscious.

Following on from successful clinical placements in adoption/fostering and adult mental health, I graduated with an MA in Music Therapy from the University of Roehampton in 2023. I also have a background in teaching with over ten years of experience working in Primary Education, which has given me a unique insight into both meeting the needs of children and young people with nerurodivergence, SEND, SEMH and traumatic life experiences, but also of the educational and societal systems they find themselves in. This means that I am well-placed to work with children, young people and adults who may be struggling to find the support that they need from their existing settings, in an intersectional and nuanced way.
